Whether you are Republican or Democrat, liberal or conservative, interested, or uninterested, you cannot deny that there seems to be a growing problem with the public-school system in the United States. In many ways, the system can be likened to an inexpensive daycare for parents to send their children while they work. In fact, many people joke that colleges are expensive daycares and are simply a continuation of this flawed system. While many people seem to want to make this a generational problem, the problem is a systematic one. Students are not receiving an education that is on par with what they deserve. They show up and attend their classes, but they’re not learning anything. If they do learn something, it’s a memorization or pneumonic centered around passing a test. There is no type of meaning associated with the material and they do not understand the context for which to use that type of information. In many cases, a lot of students don’t understand the information they’ve been taught until much later in their lives. The problem is that there’s no context or perhaps maybe it’s also that there is no level of care being put into their education.
Betsy DeVos inherited a huge problem when she took over the reins as Secretary of Education. She knew that students were dealing with this difficult issue, and she knew how to fix it. The problem is that many people are not willing to accept her drastic ideals when it comes to this particular problem. People maintain a general level of nostalgia for the public-school system, they don’t want to see it entirely destroyed but they know that there is a problem. They simply hope that administrators will be willing to put in the work necessary to complete the level of change that would bring the system up to par. Betsy DeVos believes that such amount of work would be in vain and that it would also require a huge catalyst. Betsy DeVos knows that that catalyst should be more interests in the beneficial components of school choice. School choice is the future and should not be discredited simply because it is a radical solution to an almost near constant problem.
Betsy DeVos explains to Philanthropy Roundtable that she will continue to be an advocate for this type of education, even though she has been appointed the head of the education system. In fact, in this position, she knows now more than ever how much work it will take to overhaul the entire network. The work necessary to create a better future for American students is going to fall on parents, administrators, teaching professionals, and all other support staff. There needs to be some type of interest paid to the students as they try to traverse a very complicated school system. It may be, that a change in their educational career into the field of school choice will be the only option they have had obtaining some of the larger goals that children of this demographic tend to have. Betsy DeVos is not willing to give up on these children’s goals.
Betsy DeVos is a reformer and has all through been at the front line in the educational reform movement. She began her political career at the Calvin College where she actively took part in the campus politics and she has remained active up to date. Betsy DeVos has led several party organizations, campaigns and political action committee. She served as the chairman of the Republican Party for a period of six years.
Her husband Dick DeVos vied to be the Governor of Michigan as a Republican Party nominee, this clearly shows that the reforming spirit runs in Betsy’s family. Betsy DeVos serves other leadership roles including serving as the chairman of the Alliance of School Choice, American Federation for Children and the Windquest Group, a firm they founded together with her husband back in the year 1989. This firm largely invests in clean energy, manufacturing, and technology. Dick DeVos once served as the president of Amway and the Orlado magic NBA franchise.
Betsy DeVos pursues reforms by manipulation of several nonprofit roles. She chairs their family foundation and her charitable efforts are felt far and wide. Betsy is also an active member of a variety of national and local boards such as Kids Hope USA, Foundation for Excellence in Education, De Vos Institute for Arts Management and the Mar Hill Bible Church. She is widely known as a senior advocate for the educational choice movement.
According to Betsy, it wasn’t an instant incident that drew her in to educational-movement reforms but the entire thing was gradual. She said when her children were at a school going age, together with her husband they visited Potters House Christian School. The school, for a period of time, had been serving children from low income families and while there they got to interact with a good number of the parents. They went to the school more frequently just to visit and they learnt that for the most of the parents there, it was a great sacrifice to pay their children’s fees. This triggered them to support individual students and later on this became a commitment up to date.
This kind of dedication made them even think broadly about education and Dick expressed so through vying for the State Board of Education in Michigan and he was elected. After the successful elections, Betsy established a foundation centered on giving out scholarships to students who mainly came from families that earned little income. She was also working with two national charities which both worked to expand educational choice through tax credits and vouchers.
Betsy DeVos was born back in the year 1958 into wealthy prince family. She practices religion as a Christian as she was raised at a church in Holland. She is a dedicated family woman with a husband, Dick DeVos, and four already grown up children. The family has all through been contributing to conservative political and religious causes. It is unarguable that the family’s impact has been felt in the entire nation.
End Citizens United (ECU) executive director and president Tiffany Muller released a statement concerning the new agenda that was unveiled by the House and Senate Democrats on July 24, 2017. According to the President, the agenda named as ‘A Better Deal: Better Jobs, Better Wages, Better Future,’ represents a recipe for success in 2018. He feels that the system has always been stolen from the citizens and auctioned to the highest bidder. In the process working families have been isolated. Tiffany Muller further stated that American jobs are being exported, costs of prescription drugs is rising while wages have remained constant. He believes that the move by Senate and House Democrats would fix the out of order system.
Polls results from Hart Research indicate that 79 percent of voters in Senate battlegrounds agree that the system is being rigged against them. A significant number agrees that rigging the system against them is a bigger problem than government exaggerated spending, high taxes and the overwhelming burden on their businesses. ECU is committed to correct the system by funding and campaigning for a Congress, which will fight to overturn the Supreme Court Ruling of 2010 (Citizens United) that marked the entrance of undisclosed dirty money in the American politics. By doing so, ECU will deliver a system that works for the American citizens as opposed to the current one, which serves the interests of the wealthy.
End Citizens United Plans to Raise $35 Million for 2018 Midterm Elections
End Citizens United is a grassroots– funded political action committee committed to electing a congress that will end the rigged system and bring it back to the American Citizens. The PAC collected $4million within the first three months of 2017 and is committed to raising $35 million for 2018 midterm elections. This amount will be significantly high given that the committee raised $25 million in 2016.
According to Tiffany Muller, this year, over 100,000 people have contributed and about 40,000 of them being new donors. He associated the rapid increase in the number of donors to the general feeling amongst the citizens that the system is being rigged against them. Additionally, the Democrats are bitter about President Trump win as well as the appointment of Judge Neil Gorsuch to head the Supreme Court.
A win for End Citizens United
Some of ECU efforts have come to fruition. A Democrat Senate candidate in Georgia, Jon Ossof won in the April special election. Additionally, the PAC managed to collaborate with Republican senators who agreed to rescue themselves from voting on the Betsy DeVos nomination. This resulted in a 50-50 vote. Although Vice President Pence voted to break the tie in favor of Betsy, this was a big win for ECU.
The progressive side of the political spectrum has precious few billionaires willing to throw their weight behind it, at least in the United States. So, the rise of George Soros and his return to the political game is a super important step for progressive politicians to get back at it against their big spending right wing opposition. George Soros has mostly been out of the spotlight and out of mainstream politics since his run with Al Gore back in 2004 but something sparked him to return and that something was Donald J. Trump. The 2016 Presidential Election was one of the most divisive moments in the United States political world that didn’t involve a war and the repercussions of Soros return and the election of Trump will be studied for years to come.
George Soros was born in Hungary but he was forced to flee the country when it became occupied by Nazis. Soros saw firsthand how an oppressive, populist regime could terrify and embolden all of the worst concepts of a country and so he has spent the majority of his life combating those very traits. Soros emigrated to London where he would work his way through the London School of Economics, studying the philosophies that would later form the groundwork for his philanthropic giving and political endeavors. Soros would eventually graduate from University before setting sail to America. When he arrived in America Soros would go on to establish the Soros Hedge Fund and thus work his way up to becoming a self made billionaire. Learn more about his profile at businessinsider.com.
After making his fortune Soros would immediately get to work on making an impact politically. He worked alongside progressives and left leaning democrats in order to create a name for himself, culminating with a semi successful funding of Al Gore in 2004. Now Soros is back in politics and supporting Hillary Clinton and the rest of the progressive politicians that were running in 2016 and will run again in 2018 and 2020. Michael Vachon, the political adviser to George Soros, said that the primary reason for Soros’ return to politics was simple: the rising tide of dangerous populist rhetoric had raised the stakes so much that he felt obliged to return. Learn more on Discover the Networks about George Soros.
George Soros return was met with progressive adulation and more than a little bit of negativity from conservatives. There are precious few billionaires who are willing to sacrifice their riches for the greater good, but Soros is one of them — a rarity for conservatives. Soros would go on to donate over $25 million to progressives up and down the ticket, including $7 million straight to a pro-Clinton committee. Now with the election over, we can expect George Soros to double down and continue to ramp up his support.
